Let's Unite Against Poverty This Lent!
Caritas Australia
For 60 years, Caritas Australia has worked hand-in-hand with the most marginalised and remote communities in Australia and overseas, to confront the challenges of poverty. Caritas Australia is the international aid and development agency of the Catholic Church in Australia. Caritas believes God wants a world where everyone is looked after and treated fairly. Caritas Australia is all about hope, justice and dignity for all of God’s creation.
Caritas is compassion in action!
1. They help people in an emergency. This is called aid.
2. They help people help themselves by working with communities on things like access to food, water, and healthcare for a better future. This is called community development.
3. They speak up when something is not right. This is called advocacy.
4. They teach people about how to be good global neighbours. This is called raising awareness.
5. They raise money to do this work. This is called fundraising.
God teaches us to love everyone. We are all inspired by:
• Jesus
• The Bible
• Encyclicals (letters) by Popes: Laudato Si teaches us to care for the earth and each other. and Fratelli Tutti teaches us about friendship and love.
Ways we can take action... AT HOLY FAMILY WE COMMIT TO:
• Fundraising – We are crazy for Caritas! During Lent, we will have some crazy days – hats, glasses, socks and hair. Next Wednesday, 25 February is Crazy Hat Day. All students are invited to wear a hat and bring in a donation for Caritas.
• Talking to others about global issues
• Caring for creation
• Keep on learning
Thank you in advance for your generosity and for your support in building the kingdom of God here at Holy Family.

Dear Families,
Please make sure you ask your eldest child for your Family "Lent in a Bag" given out this week. It takes a lot of time and effort to put these bags together for 253 families so it would be wonderful if you could use the contents of the bags for your family table for the next 40 days until Easter. Keep them all in the bag in the centre of the table and ask your children to lead you in activities suggested there for mealtimes .You may even like to make at least one day each week a special family dinner time and say the Grace suggested in the bag and/or take up the kindness challenge outlined on one of the sheets. Lent is a time for reflection and renewal. What could we as a family do to make Lent more meaningful this year? Your "Lent in a Bag" will hopefully help you answer this!
Many thanks,
