Welcome to Week 5 Leongatha Primary School

Dear Leongatha Primary School families,

As we move confidently into Week 5, there is a strong sense of purpose and momentum across our school. We have well and truly shifted into performance mode as we prepare for NAPLAN, and it is wonderful to see the focus and determination from our students and staff.

On Monday 23, our Grade 3 and Grade 5 students will commence their online NAPLAN practice test. This is an important opportunity for students to become familiar with the online platform, the structure of the assessments, and the expectations around each task.

Our focus is on ensuring every student feels confident, calm and capable. We are working alongside them to refine their skills and build stamina — remembering that perfect practice makes permanent. This practice event is about preparation, confidence and growth, and we wish all of our students every success.

On Wednesday 25, our Prep students will continue their PEAP testing (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools – English). PEAP provides valuable early literacy data that helps us understand each child’s development in reading and related skills.

Importantly, this data allows us to be increasingly responsive in our teaching. It supports our teachers to tailor learning experiences, provide targeted instruction, and ensure that every child is receiving what they need at this crucial stage of their learning journey.

Also on Wednesday 25, we are pleased to be working alongside an occupational therapist who will be supporting our staff to better diagnose, understand and respond to the needs of our students. This work strengthens our capacity to engage students more holistically in their learning — recognising that regulation, engagement, and wellbeing are deeply connected to academic success.

This forms part of our broader commitment to ensuring that every child feels supported, understood and equipped to thrive both socially and academically.

On Thursday 26, Alison March and I will commence our 2026 work within the statewide Marrung Project. This important initiative focuses on closing the gap within the learning experience for our Aboriginal students.

The work we begin now will directly inform the recommencement of our Reconciliation Action Planning for 2026. We are committed to ensuring culturally responsive practices are embedded in our teaching and that every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student feels seen, valued and empowered within our school community.

We are incredibly proud of the number of students representing our school at Division Swimming on Friday 27. A huge shout out to these dedicated competitors who continue to push themselves toward the next level — with some now setting their sights on State Finals.
