Fundamental Movement Skills

The Munch and Move program recently visited our preschool to provide some handy tips and updated information on supporting the children's physical development. While we have been using various activities to support the children progress in developing these skills this new information has extended our knowledge, particularly on why focusing on these skills is important. We have used activities to practice our kicking, rolling, throwing and catching, leaping skipping, galloping and side sliding throughout the year. The children took to these challenges and have persisted with the tasks of kicking the ball into the goal, knocking down the skittles and throwing and catching the ball into up-turned witch’s hat. The children were having fun while refining their gross motor skills. We are now using the list of 'Equipment to Enhance Active Play' from Munch and Move to find more activities to extend the children's gross motor skills. By focusing on the children's fundamental movement skills in preschool we are supporting them to develop the skills needed in future sports activities.

The Munch and Move program also focus on nutrition and other health areas of child development. For more information for parents please visit:
