CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, we are learning about narratives.

VOCABULARY

Narrative: A piece of writing that focuses on telling a story; that features a beginning, middle and end, that features a problem and solution.

Orientation: How the story began.

Initiating Events: What kicks off the story, what happens to the characters; what is the problem they begin to face

Direct Consequence/Resolution: How the problem was solved.

Ending: How the story ended. What did the characters do after they solved the problem?

Rule of 3: Adjective, adjective and adjective noun. E.g. The boy stood out the front of the dark, creepy and spooky haunted house

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to write a narrative based on this prompt, following the structure and guiding questions.

This week, focus on using the rule of 3! Try to uplevel your vocabulary to really engage the reader! Remember, you only want to use the rule of 3 once or twice per paragraph otherwise it will lose its value!
