Mr Wight -Guest Speaker for Civics Unit

Year 7 students have been studying systems of government as part of their Civics unit in Humanities. They have been looking at the three levels of government in Australia, significant roles and responsibilities and have been creating their own group campaigns. Mr Wight was an excellent choice of guest speaker as the Member for Tarneit and a real-life example of the local system at work in their own community.

Textiles this Semester

This Semester, students have created fabric products that challenge their technical and creative skills in adaptation and design.

Our Year 6 students have been developing their hand-sewing skills and creating maze fidget wristbands and soft toys. In their current task, students were challenged to create a creative soft toy design using a chosen template pattern and begin learning about how fabric products are constructed.

Year 7 and 8 students have applied their sewing machine skills, redesigning a basic tote bag to suit their specific needs, and adding more functionality and aesthetic elements to their designs.

Finally, the Year 9 students have been learning how to construct garments using commercial dressmaking patterns. In their second assignment, students were asked to choose a pattern to create and go through the process of choosing fabric and adapting either a functional or an aesthetic element to the pattern. They were challenged to read sewing instructions and develop their practical sewing skills.

Below are just some of the finished examples of our students’ work.
