Clyde North Campus News

The Final Campus Assembly was held this week which traditionally focuses on the investiture of the new House Captains. We were hoping to celebrate all together in the Piazza, but the fog and drizzle meant we moved to the Geode. Nevertheless MacKillop, Augustine and Avila Houses were a wonderful audience whilst the other houses watched enthusiastically via the live stream from their House areas. The assembly also gave us the opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of students this term, including, Shared stories, Alliance Francaise, Japan Exchange, High achievers’ awards and a launch of the Vinnies Christmas and Kimbe Project campaigns.

House Captains investiture

It was a very special assembly for our newly elected House Captains for 2025 as they pledged their commitment to the staff and students within their House as well as the wider college community. House Captains become the guardians of their House, modelling to all students the key values of the House Patron and in doing so strive to become leaders of faith, education and service. We wish them every success in their leadership journey for 2025.

Shared Stories

Shared stories is a publication based on a collection of stories, poems, reflections, drawings, paintings, ceramics and photographs that have been developed by students in Catholic primary and secondary schools throughout Victoria. Each year a theme is presented to students to base their creativity around. St Peter’s students have displayed great courage over the years in offering their creative work for publication and have been successfully selected for Shared Stories and this year twenty-nine students will feature in the final publication. Each student will receive their very own copy of the book as a thankyou and recognition of their creative talent. Well done to each student.

Alliance Francaise awards

Each year our students participate in a range of competitions hosted by the Alliance Francaise. As is the case each year, St Peter’s College does very well as students strive to present their best effort and are rewarded with commendations and honours. The awards this term was presented by Languages Coach Ms Phanjoo to seventeen students who achieved very high standards and recognition by Alliance Francaise.  for their fine efforts. To complete this presentation Bethany Koneri (yr8) recited in perfect French a lovely poem. Our congratulations to all students who entered the competition.

Japanese exchange trip 2024

It was wonderful to hear the stories from our students who had travelled to Japan last term, their excitement of this journey was still very evident in their reflections. We learnt about the different foods they experienced and their favourite activity and places they visited. It was noted that one of their most enjoyable experiences was the home stay. The home stay enables the students to attend school with their homestay buddy, attend family functions and indeed become part of their Japanese family. The friendships they made during this trip will continue to grow beyond the international borders that separate Australia and Japan.

Celebrating Student Achievements in 2024

This year, St Peters Clyde North students showcased their talents and excelled in national competitions, including the Australian Geography and History Competitions, Big Science, Science and Maths Olympiads, and the Australian Maths Trust. In total 70 students participated in competitions this year.

For the first time, our students entered the Victorian Independent Schools Poetry Competition, a prestigious event celebrating young creative talent. Out of 850 entries on the theme of "awe," Jesel Johnson’s poem “Coyote Hole” earned an honorary mention in the senior section for its creativity and depth, placing him among the state’s top young poets. His name is featured on the Arts Learning Festival website—a testament to his hard work and artistic expression.

Congratulations to all students for their incredible achievements in 2024!

Social Justice

Our Social Justice Captain Michelle Muchai presented two initiatives that we support each year; the Christmas hampers prepared by Vinnies from the kind donations from students and their families and the Kimbe School Project which sees students donate excess stationary items that they do not need. All donations of food, and stationary provide critical support to those in need within our local community and the Kimbe Community overseas. Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and bringing joy to each other and we thank all families who contribute each year to these vital charities especially this year which has presented challenging economic times for many of our school community. We thank you in anticipation of your generous support for these projects.

New Semester Eve

The day before HeadStart is called new semester eve and provides the opportunity for students to engage in final classes as year 7 and 8 students, peer support training at year 9 in preparation for their role as a year 10 Peer Leader for the year 7 2025 and for years 10 and 11 they receive important exam feedback. This day sums up the year’s work and lays the foundation for the journey that each student will embark on day one of HeadStart. Thank you to all staff for running the many and varied activities and we look forward to welcoming each student into their new class and year level day one of HeadStart.

Still to come….

There maybe only a week left in the school year, but it will be filled with much to be thankful for as we enjoy the final activities and celebrations, some of which include.

  • Presentation Day
  • Final House Assembly
  • Annual Tug of War Competition a favourite Rosemary Graham Challenge

And on the last day of term, Friday 6th Dec, we will celebrate our Advent Mass at St Thomas the Apostle.

As this is the last newsletter for the year, I leave you with a special Christmas Blessing, and wish you all a peaceful, joyful and blessed Christmas.
