Applied Learning
It's been a very busy few weeks with our VCE VM students hard at work finishing their TAFE courses for the year. students have successfully completed their projects and learnt many new skills along the way, ensuring they are job ready with suitable employment skills.
Anesti Kalaitzis, Year 11, navigated his way through to show off his carpentry skills as he designed, measured , cut and mastered angles to produce a sturdy step stool. Anesti showed skill and design while learning the basics of carpentry.
Dominic Gorgise, Year 11, has been learning how to gauge refrigerant cooling levels and the importance of reading the meters and gauges. On work placement, Dominic has been able to do this work independently while out at various job sites.
Cade Marsh, Year 11, has been busy building sub floors and frame work while at TAFE studying Building and Construction. He has worked both independently and within a team, with no issues. He can now build these when out on a job site confidently.
Isabelle Anile Year 11, and Alanna Meseha, Year 12, have also been very busy at Hallam Secondary College completing their final practical classes in their Certificate III in Beauty. The last few weeks have seen the girls undertake applying lash extensions, lash and brow tinting treatments, arm, leg and face waxing as well as lash lifts. Over the coming weeks they will also carry out fake tanning on models.
Tocobye Tabia and Regan Skinner, both Year 11, have finished the first year of their Plumbing certificate putting together bathroom pipe work, ensuring there were no leaks and the flow of water was correct. All pipes were required to be measured and cut, then attached in such a way that the water was able to flow through each section. The boys also learnt how to measure, cut and bend roof guttering ready for installation.
All students should be very proud of their efforts both at TAFE and work placements, as we are of them. We are looking forward to seeing our students progress through their TAFE certifications next year. For those who have completed their courses, we can't wait to see you begin new TAFE pathways and work placements in 2025.
Year 12 VCE VM Community Projects
At the conclusion of our Year12 VCE VM year, and as part of their community projects, we saw all the wonderful and kind donations of blankets and towels being delivered to a shelter in need. Peter Kabadais, who has been collecting these throughout Term 3, delivered them to AAPS (Australian Animal Protection Society) who cares for homeless animals with the aim of having them adopted. AAPS is a community based registered charity that rely heavily on donations and volunteers. The blankets and towels he delivered from Nazareth’s generous community were a welcome relief and will be put to good use. Well done, Peter, for organising this.
Another community project finished at the start of Term 4 was Dion Ferraro’s NCCA bottle art emblem/logo that recognises and celebrates all that the NCCA do within our Nazareth Community. Dion liased with NCCA members to create a logo that embedded their philosophy and captured the image of who they are. A lot of design elements went into this project to create just the right piece of art for them. We hope the NCCA like it.
