Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2024

The Last Fundraising Chapter for 2024!

The Christmas Giving Tree has been given a good start with the contribution of Year 12 students. We are now seeking donations from ALL students in the Nazareth community. A Santa sack has been placed in each of the Pastoral homerooms in the hope that, over the coming weeks, these will be filled to the brim!  We are seeking new toys for all ages (0-18), and they should be unwrapped so that the Vinnies can place tags on each donation. We encourage everyone to get on board and donate to our Giving Tree.

On Monday 25 November, we will have our annual Assist A Student Appeal. This fundraiser aims to educate children in less developed countries throughout SE Asia. Our goal is for each pastoral to raise the $80 needed to educate a child for one whole year. You can learn more about this program by clicking on the link below.

Students are asked to wear appropriate casual clothes ($3) and buy a sausage ($2) on this day.

On behalf of the 2024 Vinnies, we thank everyone who has supported our fundraising events this year. Without the support of the entire school community, we would not be able to achieve what we have throughout 2024. Let's go out on a high with the final two fundraisers!

Nazareth Composting Program- National Recycling Week

Food Studies students, along with the maintenance and properties team, have welcomed some new friends (the worms!) into their teams! Thanks to Mark, Tom and Mrs Curcio for their help setting up and the ongoing maintenance of this valuable project.

The students, in all production classes, are composting fruit and vegetable scraps as part of our recycling program. We have set up a worm farm and a rotating compost bin to put all of our scraps into. Composting aims to reduce land fill. We are going to use the nutrient rich byproducts of our composting to feed our vegetable and herb gardens that we pick from and use in our cooking.

EAL Students Build Balloon Powered Cars

The class built their cars and then had to type the best and worst thing they thought about the activity:

  • The best thing in this activity that we can learn some physics concepts and use recycled materials to build a toy car that is propelled by a balloon. The main hazards are hot glue guns and craft knives. Hot glue guns get very hot at the tip and can cause minor burns and scissors can cut your fingers if not used carefully. Thu Ngan (Julia) Nguyen Year 9 MC1
  • The best thing of the car is the car can go. The worst thing of the car is the car cant go straight. Thien Nhan (Dominic) Hoang Year 8 KN5
  • Best thing is it can move and go fast, the worst thing is fixing wheel. Lehan (Lucien) Li Year 7 MC6
  • The best thing about building a balloon car is the final product when it can go very far, and the worst thing is the wheels calibration. Seakhao Seng Year 9 MC

Year 8 Visual Communication Design

A key skill that modern designers need to possess is an ability to translate, and enhance, freehand drawings in a digital environment. As part of their studies this Term, Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have learnt how to use the program, Adobe Illustrator, to do this. For their task, each student was required to freehand draw at least four characters from their own imagination or use an existing character as inspiration. They were then to select one of their drawings and recreate and enhance it using the tools and techniques taught in class for Adobe Illustrator. Please take a look at the excellent work below and see how the design idea has evolved from a pencil drawing to a digital recreation.
