Mini Vinnies 2024
Wow! 2024 was the second year of running the Mini Vinnies program at Holy Family and it was a massive year. This year the Mini Vinnies students have:
- learnt about the St. Vincent de Paul society
- gained an understanding of what it means to be vulnerable and how some people end up in situations like homelessness or poverty
- took a pledge to work together to support people in their local community who could be deemed as vulnerable, including the elderly, poor or homeless
- created a committee which involved holding positions of leadership, such as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer
- worked at an ice cream sundae stall (as part of the whole school Colour Run event) to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul
- brainstormed and planned ideas for future good works that could either raise funds for St. Vincent de Paul or support groups in our local community
- took the idea of a science fair and turned it into a very successful fundraising event for the whole school community called the ‘Science Extravaganza’
- visited the elderly residents at a local nursing home on a fortnightly basis and played board and card games with them
- created puzzles based around the concept of ‘kindness’ to play with the Year 1/2 students, which would also teach them about kindness and how it can be shown on a daily basis
- collected and organised donations of non-perishable goods, as well as toiletries for the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
- overall raised $2,462 for our Mt. Waverley branch of St. Vincent de Paul, which will be used to support vulnerable people in our local community who are doing it tough
The Year 4 Mini Vinnies students should be SO proud of their efforts this year to spread kindness, love and joy amongst our local community and to support those who are finding it difficult. Thank you for your support with our events.
