The students have just completed the school’s annual sports carnival. As the name suggests, the carnival was all about participation and having fun, and a lot of fun was had.
It started with Foundation, Grade One and Two on Munday the 11th. As the students entered Casey Field, the excitement started to fill the stands. The first event was the sprints and in our first race, the eager foundation students ran 50 meters past the finish line so honed was their competitive juices. For the next 40 minutes, races were run, ribbons were awarded, and points were tallied.
Students then participated in a series of novelty events like an egg and spoon race, a bean bag toss or a high hopper race. They also competed in the long jump amazing us with their speed and power.
The points race was the conclusion to the day, and it remains a highlight watching 250 students steam around the track earning points for their houses. Grades 3 to year 6 participated on the following Monday with the day following a similar theme.
The sprints started the day and then the grade fives and sixes competed in the long trek around the track completing in the 400m race. Every student who started the race finished and they were cheered on by parents, educators and friends.
The novelty events, long jump and an intense game of Hula Hut were the events that the students rotated through. At the end of all of rotations, Yellow House were in front of Red house by a mere 5 points so the points race would eventually decide the winner.
In the end, Red House prevailed by 87 points.
The athletics day was a huge success due to all students sportsmanship, house spirit and willingness to give it a go
