Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

In Week 7 students participated in the 3-6 Athletics Day on Monday. All students demonstrated good sportsmanship with the Red House winning on the day.

Mathematics:

In Math's, we began our focus on data investigations working on writing specific questions that can be used to collect information. Students wrote questions about pizza toppings. drinks and dessert that others in the Year 6 cohort could answer. This will lead to the students determining what we may need to purchase for the Year 6 Graduation Lunch.

How you can help at home:

Encourage your child to practice mental math by asking quick questions during daily activities, like estimating grocery totals or finding price differences on sale items.

English:

We continued reading our class novel, Can You See Me?, exploring Chapters 17-20. These chapters deepen students’ understanding of themes and characters, fostering empathy and awareness of different perspectives and personal experiences.  Students wrote letters to special people in their lives using the words and techniques their have  learnt over the year.

How you can help at home:

Ask questions about the story to encourage your child’s understanding and connection with the characters.

Religious Education:

We continued our study of Mary as a disciple, focusing on key moments in her life that demonstrate qualities like courage, trust, and faith. Students had to organize key points in Mary's life into a chronological order through the use of historical paintings. They also had to understand why particular symbols were used in the paintings.

AUSLAN:

In AUSLAN, students learned the signs for animals from the sea. They played charades using their new knowledge to see if other students could guess the signs. They could also sign the colour and size of the animal that students had to guess.

SEL:

Students created role plays in response to different scenarios, demonstrating help seeking strategies that they have learnt over the term. Students could seek help from trusted adults to help them through difficult situations.

Integrated Studies:

Students explored different music genres, examining instrumentation and tone color to discover what makes each genre unique and how different instruments contribute to each genre’s sound. Students used the Chrome Music Lab website to create their own mini songs.
