LEARNING SPACE 2  JUNIORS  -  CLINIC 2

Our Juniors in clinic 2 have recently started learning about Australian Money. We have been investigating the features of our Australian coins and notes. We have looked at the shape and design of each shape. We have also learnt that you can tell the difference between cents and dollars because of the colour of the coin.

"Jesus is the Light of the World"

This week in RE/Inquiry, the LS 2 Seniors are exploring the concept of Jesus and other divine figures from various faiths guiding us as beacons of light in our faith journey. The students watched the book video God Made Light to deepen their understanding of light as a powerful symbol in Catholicism. In our faith, God is often described as light, a force that illuminates, provides safety, and guides us.

The children read scripture passages that emphasise this symbolism:

  • John 8:12: "I am the light of the world."
  • Psalm 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation."

Through these passages, the children were able to reflect on how, in times of darkness and uncertainty, we turn to Jesus, the Light of the World, to guide and inspire us.

Jesus illuminates our lives with love, truth, and grace. By inviting Him into our hearts, we gain clarity and strength to face life’s challenges with faith and purpose. As we strive to follow His example, we become vessels of His light, spreading kindness, compassion, and hope within our communities.

Together as a Faith filled Community, we continue walking in His light, allowing His love to shine through us, bringing warmth, clarity, and hope to our world.

SPORT

On Wednesday, November 6th, the State Athletics competition took place at the Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. Andi participated in both the 800 m and 1500 m events.

The day began with warm and sunny weather as Andi prepared for the 800 m race. Her expression reflected determination, with her sole focus on securing victory. The race was highly competitive; however, Andi's fierce spirit and mental fortitude propelled her to success.

As the weather shifted to thunderstorms and rain, the start of the 1500m event was postponed. In this race, Andi triumphed by 20 meters over the second-place competitor from Ruyton. Andi has now earned the title of State Champion. Congratulations, Andi we are immensely proud of your accomplishments.

GRADE 5 BIKE EDUCATION – CYCLING SKILLS AND SIMULATIONS

Grade 5 students will begin their Bike Education Program on Friday next week. They will remain on school grounds completing cycling skills and simulations.

Students will need to bring their bikes and helmets to school on Friday November 15th. We remind students that if they are riding to school they will need to dismount their bikes and walk on school grounds. If parents are dropping off bicycles at school, they can remain in the Bike Shed for the duration of the program.

SWIMMING

Our swimming program continues next week. Thank you to all the SFS staff who help the program run smoothly. A big thanks also to the parents who assist the Juniors in the change rooms. Just a reminder that if you have offered to assist in the change rooms, no siblings are to be brought on the day as they cannot enter the change rooms. Also if you have offered to assist, we would greatly appreciate your attendance otherwise it makes things difficult for the staff.

Please ensure your child is wearing their bathers under their sports uniform and brings a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. It would be great if all students come prepared for their swimming lesson so that our office staff don’t need to take up valuable time ringing parents to bring students’ swimming gear.

Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Race to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me, are able to assist in the junior change rooms.

A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. Students not attending swimming because of a medical reason will remain at school in another Learning Space.

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
