Year 1: Wellbeing
During Wellbeing this term, our Year 1 students have been learning about stress.
They have explored what it feels like, what causes it, and most importantly, how to handle it.
We asked the students, "What makes you feel stressed?" Their answers varied from missing a favourite toy to having too much homework.
We then explored what stress feels like in our bodies – tight muscles, fast heartbeat, even a little tummy ache!
After brainstorming with the students about how we can overcome stress, here are some comments from our students:
Chiara 1A- Stress is when you're mad or angry and you can take deep breaths to overcome it.
Josh 1A- I think stress is when you feel frustrated and you really want to do it but you can't do it.
Christian 1A- I think stress is like frustration by trying to complete a forced task but you can't do it. I fix it by seeking help.
Buona 1MU- Stress is when you get angry and you want personal space from others.
Alyssa 1MU- Stress is something you’re angry with and you want space. I can fix it by calming down and drinking some water.
Yuna 1H- Somebody didn’t make what they wanted and you can try and calm down and make it again.
Juan 1H- Stress is something out of your control and you can figure out how to fix it.
Michael 1MU- Stress is when you’re crazy and you can play a game and watch TV.
Sobhan 1MU- Stress means that you can’t do something and you’re scared you will lost. You can calm down and try your best.
Luke 1H- Stress is thinking too hard. You can use 'First things First' to fix it.
Isaac 1H- Stress is when you want something but your mum might say, "No."
Through these experiences, our Year 1 students have learned that stress is a normal part of life, and that they have the power to manage it constructively. They now understand that they can choose strategies to cope with stress and feel calmer and happier.
