Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
BEPS continues to introduce The Stand-Up Project (SUP) as a whole-school program designed to reduce discrimination, harassment and bullying through student voice, agency and leadership.
Our Year 5 students have been educated on the causes and impacts of poor behaviour and how to be an Upstander using the Four D approach (direct, delay, delegate and distract).
We have now established our SUP student leaders. These student leaders have collaborated to identify the issues they want to address within their school and develop class plans and activities to promote the message of 'upstanding'. The program provides a suite of resources and ongoing support for students, teachers and parents to ensure full engagement of the entire school community.
Student Leadership 2025
Our staff have been talking to the Year 5 students about student leadership positions at our school for 2025. Best wishes to all of the those students who have nominated for the various Student Leadership positions for 2025. In the coming weeks, students will present to the school community on why they should be elected as one of the school leaders.
Celebrating Student Success
Congratulations to Yuelin 1A for winning the gold medal in a piano competition.
Congratulations to Adele 6R in designing the 2025 BEPS Foundation T-Shirt
Road Safety at BEPS
Our community would be well aware of the terrible tragedy that occurred at Auburn South PS. Regular readers of this newsletter would know that we often raise the issue of road safety and our concerns. Parents are reminded to drive with extreme care and caution around the school. Last week, leadership again noted community members completing U-turns on Highbury Road outside the Kiss and Drop zone - this is a very dangerous driving practice. I have also had concerns raised by staff who witness parents crossing our main roads on either side of the pedestrian lights. These are examples of dangerous practice as it potentially compromises the safety of our students.
2025 Planning
In preparation for determining our 2025 classes, we will be asking students to name three students that they have ‘positive relationships’ with and would like to be in a class with next year. We facilitate this process within class, and all classroom teachers take a consistent approach in helping students define and recognise the meaning of a "positive relationship". This year we are trialing the program ‘Class Solver’ to organise 2025 classroom allocation. Class Solver is a cloud-based tool that helps teachers and administrators to create class lists efficiently and effectively.
CPR Update for all Staff
In continuing to provide the utmost of care and safety for all students and members of the community who come on to our premises, BEPS staff completed their scheduled CPR update this week. This essential training ensures that all staff are equipped to deal with a range of emergency situations that could arise when either at school, on an excursion or at a camp. We once again thank the dedicated staff at BEPS for their engaged participation and also thank Elisa for coordinating the training.
Colour Run
Monday the 18th of November sees the return of the Colour Run. This will be held on the school oval form 2.00pm-3.30pm with the whole school involved. The Colour Run has a dual purpose, both as a fun, special event for students, and a fundraising event for our school.
Remembrance Day
In 1918 the armistice that ended World War I came into force, bringing to an end four years of hostilities that saw 61,919 Australians die at sea, in the air, and on foreign soil. Few Australian families were left untouched by the events of World War I, 'the war to end all wars'. Most had lost a father, son, daughter, brother, sister or friend.
On the 11th of November we paused to remember the sacrifice of those men and women who have died or suffered in wars and conflicts, and all those who have served to protect our country. This is an important observance that reminds us that the freedoms and prosperity that we enjoy as a nation have not come without a cost, and that we should be thankful to those who paid the price so that we may enjoy the wonders of this great country.
Safe and Respectful Behaviour in our Community
It is of vital importance that our students feel safe and secure when attending school. Parents/Carers must only approach their own child/children when on the school grounds. Please see the DE poster regarding the types of behaviours that are not okay in our school community and those behaviours that positively enhance a safe, supportive and respectful school community.
Yours in Partnership,
Darren
