CEO's Welcome

Term 2 here at MITS is underway with a flurry of activity!

On Monday, I was fortunate to travel from Darwin to Melbourne with our NT students.  The enormity of the journey that our students go on to pursue education in Melbourne is always inspiring.  This time, I was particularly struck by the strength of relationship – the deep bonds – that exist between our young people: travelling from over 20 communities, joyously reuniting at Darwin Airport with their MITS Mob.  These reunions continued when we arrived in Melbourne – reconnecting with Victorian MITS students and, of course, our dedicated MITS staff who are full of energy for the term ahead.

And it is a term that will require serious energy!  Footy with Richmond Junior Football Club is underway, our seniors will soon be preparing for exams across their Pathways Schools, our Year 7s will commence their annual art program with the Monash University Museum of Art (this time with the Pitcha Makin Fellas!) and of course Reconciliation Week and Dreamtime at the ‘G will be a highlight of the term: a celebration of First Nations people and their contributions across our country!

Last term, I was delighted to meet with so many MITS mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grandparents and siblings as they travelled to Melbourne to spend time with their children and with us at MITS.  The presence of our families in Melbourne makes our students stronger, and makes MITS a better place for our students.  To all of our families: you are welcome in Melbourne any time.  If you would like to visit, to be a part of school life here on Richmond Hill, please just be in touch with your House Manager and we will look forward to warmly welcoming you to MITS.

I wish our whole MITS community a very happy and productive term ahead.
