Sacramental Candidates 2023/2024 ~

Our Sacramental Candidates have continued to embark on their journey to prepare to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. We've had our Commitment Masses, our first two school-based cluster groups, with the third in our learning spaces just this week.  These gatherings have been prayerful and enriching experiences, bringing together our children, their families, and our Sacramental Team in meaningful engagement. Throughout this term at school, we will continue to support and nurture this journey through our students focusing on the Source of Life Sacrament Units. As we continue to pray for our Sacramental Candidates as they continue their preparation to receive their final two Sacraments of Initiation our students have made prayer cards to place on our prayer spaces throughout our learning suites as a visual reminder.

Resurrection ~ We proclaim the resurrection of Christ when his light illuminates the dark moments of our existence, and we are able share it with others.

Easter ~ Holy Week Liturgies

Holy Week is a significant period in our liturgical calendar, marking the final week of Lent and leading up to Easter Sunday. This sacred time was celebrated last term & this week with a series of special liturgies designed to educate and engage our students in the solemnity and significance of the events leading to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection.

Palm Sunday: The week commenced with Palm Sunday, where our Foundation students reenacted Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Each child held palm (olive) branches and sang a hymn of praise, reflecting the joyful spirit of the occasion. Our Foundation children also depicted the scripture story through their wonderful watercolour artwork.

Holy Thursday: On Tuesday of our last week of term our 3/4 students participated in a reenactment of the Last Supper, washing of the feet & Garden of Gethsemane. We all gathered in the school hall, where our Middle Years students role-played the story of the Last Supper, reminiscent of the one Jesus shared with his disciples.  Through storytelling, song and reflection, students learned about the significance of the Eucharist and the importance of service and humility.

Good Friday: Good Friday was observed with reverence and solemnity. Our Upper students shared the stations of the cross, reflecting on the events leading up to Jesus' ultimate sacrifice. Through readings, prayers, artwork, song and quiet reflection, they contemplated the meaning of redemption and sacrifice. Our school entered our hall in silence, with only the sound of Chris Dainton playing the guitar & Demi Wood playing the Cello. Our Uppers students then joined them in song ~ At the Foot of the Cross by Fr Rob Galea.

Easter Sunday: As we returned from holidays our 1/2 students led as we gathered in celebration of Easter Sunday, the most joyous day in the liturgical calendar. Students gathered for a special liturgy, where they rejoiced in the resurrection of Jesus. A hymn of praise filled the air as students sang, shared actions & artwork and prayed together, celebrating the Risen Christ, He is Risen ~ Alleluia.

The Holy Week liturgies provided students with a meaningful opportunity to journey through the events of Jesus' passion, death, and resurrection. Through prayer, reflection, and participation in sacred rituals, students deepened their understanding of scripture, and faith and experienced the transformative power of God's love. As we continue our journey of faith, may the lessons learned during Holy Week inspire us to live as disciples of Jesus, spreading love, compassion, and hope in our school and beyond.
