We are learning to make connections and inferences between the social and moral issues of today and those presented in different genres. 

VOCABULARY

Inference: Using text clues and prior knowledge to understand a text better.

Moral: Whether something is right or wrong. 

Genre:  A type or category of a text. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a text with your child, get them to make connections and inferences as they are reading. Ask them to justify their thinking with evidence from the book. Get them to identify the genre and subgenre of the text. How did they know which genre it is?  

Discuss what the moral of the story is and what social issues might relate to the text.
