Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

The school yard has been filled with lots of beautiful fallen autumn leaves this week! Many students have been entertained by them, delving into some wonderful imaginative and creative play. There were leaves being used as confetti, competitions to find the biggest and most colourful as well as scooping into huge piles that proved too much to resist jumping into. It was lovely to see the delight on faces and hear the joy in voices as they engaged with this natural wonder.

Alas, with the end of autumn comes winter and its array of associated illnesses. As the weather gets colder, we remind everyone to keep practicing prevention measures to keep well. This includes regular hand washing, covering your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze and staying up to date with vaccinations. We have many air purifiers around the school, in classrooms and learning spaces, and encourage regular hand washing and use of hand sanitiser whilst at school.

We also ask parents to please keep their child/ren home from school if they are unwell, so as not to spread illnesses.

Our staff are not immune to sickness and we have unfortunately had many staff absent due to this recently. We try to cover staff as best we can however there are times when we simply cannot find any replacement. Whilst not our first or preferred option, there are times when classes need to be split across other grades.

We do hope everyone looks after themselves and stays well.

Recorder soirée

On Wednesday evening the library was abuzz with musicians and audience members! Recorder teacher, Fiona Walters, and her budding recorder students put on a wonderful musical demonstration of what they have been learning over the first semester of the year. Being able to perform in front of an audience, some for the very first time, is such a vital and valuable experience as they continue to learn and develop. Congratulations to all our performers, and thank you to Fiona for her dedication and commitment.

Family holidays

We are experiencing a number of families choosing to take their children out of school for extended periods of time to go on family holidays. Where possible, families are encouraged to arrange family holidays outside of school times.

Parents/ Guardians are asked to put a request in writing to the principal, well in advance of the scheduled family holiday, outlining the proposed dates the student would be missing school.
