Assistant Principal

Year 7 & 8

I hope all students and families had a wonderful term break and have returned to begin term two with renewed enthusiasm. Term two has brought with it the excitement of moving into our new building. It has been fantastic to seeing our junior students in their art classes making best use of and enjoying some of the new spaces. Overall, it has been a great start to term two with students settling in straight away and the school program up and running. Congratulations to our year 7 students on completing their first full term of Secondary School. It has been a pleasure seeing the students grow and settle into day-to-day life at Lalor Secondary College, day one seems such a long time ago now!

Progress reports were completed for students at the end of term 1. I strongly encourage student and parents to view and discuss the progress across all subjects for the start of 2024. These are available on compass under the ‘reports’ tab.

School photos have recently been completed. Thank you to all the students for being prepared for the photo days where required. Families that have purchased photos will be receiving them over the first weeks of this term.

Year 7 immunisations will be occurring in week five of this term. Communication has been sent home with regards to the process. This year the immunisation program is going digital. This is a new and simpler way to provide consent for the immunisation program. The 'VaxApp' will replace the old paper consent card system that you may be familiar with from previous years. To access the ‘VaxApp’ please use this link (https://whittlesea.book.vaxapp.com.au/school/LalorSecondaryCollege-5dYeOm) or the QR code below. It is important that you follow the instructions to create your profile, and to select a response whether you are consenting or not. This will allow for accurate record keeping and families not needing to be followed up with if they have not consented either way.

LSC held its annual sports carnival on the second day of term. Students participated in tack and field events throughout the day earning points for their houses. Well done and congratulations to those in Freeman house who won the day with 1134 points, ahead of Paterson on 802 points!

Finally, I would like to congratulate one of our year 9 students, Tse-Ning Lee who has been awarded the Harding Miller Scholarship for 2024. The Harding Miller Scholarship award is a national scholarship that supports female students in year 8 that have/are demonstrating academic excellence and have the potential to succeed at school and university. Tse-Ning completed an extensive application in year eight which was supported by the college. She was provided with her award and scholarship during the term break. The scholarship provides numerous academic and financial advantages to help Tse-Ning continue to excel in her studies. Well done Ning.
