Embedding a culture of child safety: Schools must cultivate a culture where the safety, participation, and empowerment of children are central to all activities and decision-making processes. This involves fostering an environment where students feel comfortable expressing concerns and where staff are vigilant in identifying and responding to signs of abuse or neglect.
Governance and leadership commitment: School leadership plays a crucial role in driving a culture of child safety. Principals, and senior staff are required to demonstrate a clear commitment to child safety through policies, procedures, and regular training.

Athletics Day

I had the pleasure of attending the schools Athletics Day on Tuesday the 16th of April. It was an enjoyable day that allowed our students time to involve themselves in fun and physical activity. The Year 12 students dressed up and led the way, modelling how to participate to all of our junior students. They are doing everything right in 2024 making the community very proud of their efforts.

Update on the Lalor Secondary College Capital Works Project

This ambitious endeavour not only promises to rejuvenate our physical infrastructure but also heralds a new era of innovation and excellence in education at Lalor Secondary College. The additions that this project will bring to our college campus include the following:

Whole School Assembly

For a very long time our college has been limited in our ability to hold an assembly that brings our entire community together. The new gymnasium has now provided that opportunity and the school delivered an assembly that brought our entire community together for the first time in over 5 years. The Whole School Assembly is a time when students and staff come together as one community to celebrate achievements, share important announcements, and foster a sense of belonging. Beyond its surface function, the whole school assembly holds invaluable benefits that contribute to the holistic development of individuals and the collective strength of the school community. At the heart of every whole school assembly lies a spirit of unity and camaraderie. It's a time when students from diverse backgrounds and interests gather under one roof to celebrate their shared identity as members of the school community, fostering a sense of belonging and pride in being part of something greater than themselves. At the whole school assembly held on the first day back of term we were able to reinforce positive behaviour and values. Themes such as respect, kindness, perseverance, and inclusivity are woven into the fabric of the assembly encouraging students to reflect on their actions and aspire to embody the ideals of good citizenship. We ask all students to think about the opportunities the new learning spaces would provide them and how they will use those spaces moving forward.

We were then able to ask students to completely reorganise themselves to different parts of the college in line with the whole school physical changes taking place at the school. This was managed extremely well by the students encouraging us to plan our next assembly in the not-too-distant future.

All students behaved in a manner that made everyone proud to be part of the Lalor Secondary College community.

ANZAC Day Service

As a school we paused to reflect on Wednesday the 24th of April Anzac Day as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealand soldiers in conflicts throughout history. The Anzac Day service, held annually on April 25th, holds profound significance in our national consciousness, serving as a time to reflect, remember, and pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our countries. At the heart of the Anzac Day service is a profound reverence for the courage, sacrifice, and valour demonstrated by the men and women who have served in the Australian and New Zealand armed forces. Through solemn rituals such as the Dawn Service, wreath-laying ceremonies, and moments of silence, we honour the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our freedoms and way of life. The Year 7 students – Fatemeh Hashemi, Victoria Mitev and Dayne Braddock, as well as Year student and Army Cadet – William Cody led our service to recognise the many service men and women ensuring that the sacrifices of previous generations are never forgotten. By gathering together to hear stories of bravery and resilience, to recite the Ode of Remembrance, and to observe traditions such as the Last Post, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering and honouring the service and sacrifice of our Anzacs. In doing so, we pass on their legacy to future generations, instilling a sense of duty and gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today. The Anzac Day service serves as a time to remember the sacrifices of the past, to honor the service of our veterans, and to reaffirm our commitment to the values of courage, mateship, and sacrifice that define the Anzac spirit. As a school we reinforce these valuable messages which are important to us all.
