Student Wellbeing/Pastoral

I hope all our families had a well deserved break and have returned ready to have a great term 2. We are lucky that the weather has been warm and a large number of students have chosen to remain in summer uniform. Just a reminder that the expectation is that all students will be in winter uniform from Monday week 3. From week 3 homeroom teachers will be sending Compass notifications to parents and carers when students are in the incorrect uniform. If a student receives 3 of these notifications the Pastoral leaders will be working with individual students who repeatedly wear the wrong uniform. Please take the time to check your child has their winter uniform and they wear it on the correct days.

Upcoming events

  • Tuesday June 4 (week 6) - members of the Yr 11 Wellbeing Committee will be attending the Murrumbidgee Youth Mental Health Forum. The Forum brings young people  from the Riverina Murray to Wagga Wagga, allows them the opportunity to learn about mental health and wellbeing, how to support their peers, how to access professional support, and the chance to meet other young people with vastly different life experiences. The team will work on developing an initiative to bring back to the College.
  • Wednesday June 5 - the group Safe On Social will be visiting Marian and making presentations to the whole student body and also to staff. Safe on Social aims to foster a safer, more compassionate online environment. Just some of the topics they cover:
    • The impact of social media on mental health and wellbeing
    • Digital identity and reputation management
    • Safe and responsible use of emerging technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality
    • Online ethics
    • Online safety and privacy for children and teens
    • Group chat management
    • Respectful online relationships
    • Managing cyberbullying and online hate and support for victims
    • How to create a positive online presence
    • Image-based abuse and online sexual harassment
    • Strategies for managing screen time and digital addiction

  • Friday June 21 (week 8) - Thomas Reynolds from Drug Education Australia will be meeting with students from Years  8, 9 and 10. The students will look at issues such as vaping, alcohol, drugs & the law/illicit drug-related situations and safe partying. This will be appropriate to the student year level. More information to come.

Term 2 is looking to be another busy term.

Remember to reach out to your child’s Pastoral Leader if you have concerns.

Thank you
