Student Wellbeing News
There are lots of exciting things happening behind the scenes in the wellbeing space here at MCC as we start the new term.
Students are welcome to access the Lego within the library during breaks (when the facility is open) to let their imagination and creativity flow. There is the opportunity to meet some like-minded people and enjoy a quieter space, in comparison to the wider outdoor playground.
Extra curriculum activities are available during lunchtimes on most days to suit a variety of interests, and this provides opportunities to increase a sense of belonging and connection within our school community.
The Year 11 Wellbeing Committee has a very busy term ahead. The team have risen to the challenge and have registered to be part of “The Push-Up Challenge” as a team and will be completing 3,249 push-ups between 5-28 June, to primarily create awareness for mental health within our school community and in the process, potentially raise funds for our local headspace Griffith.
Sadly, the number 3,249 represents the number of Australians who died by suicide in 2022
The headspace Griffith office is newly refurbished and offers a fun, bright and safe space that aims to deliver improvements in mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation for all young Australian aged 12 -25 headspace Griffith will be aiming to develop more programs to engage and encourage young people to access the centre, connect and learn more about mental their wellbeing.
By starting the conversation and creating awareness the Wellbeing Committee will not only #pushforbetter mental health outcomes in Australia regarding mental health but also reduce the negative stigma. Plus as an added bonus increase our own fitness levels!!!!
More details will be shared in the coming weeks and all staff and students will be invited to access the link via email so they can follow our journey, send words of encouragement as we push towards achieving our goal and learn some important facts regarding mental health.
Exciting times ahead!!!!
