Yrs 3/4

Literacy

This term we have begun our literacy unit unpacking different picture story books, Little Tree and Yellow Time. Using the picture story books we have begun exploring adjectives, poetry, descriptive language, antonyms synonyms, descriptive language and creative writing. A skill we are practising throughout our writing is showing, not telling. At home, discuss with your children how we can use descriptive language to show with our writing and words, what we explore with our senses.

Mathematics

This term we began looking at time, how to tell time on both digital and analogue clocks, as well as exploring both twelve hour and twenty-four hour time. Student’s have been calculating elapsed time between different periods of time, as well as problem solving to calculate the start or finish times. We will be continuing to explore number and algebra this term, with our fractions and decimals unit commencing this week.

Inquiry

Our inquiry unit this term has begun with an exciting start! We have been exploring biological science, the concept of change with living and nonliving things. Ask your children about MRS GREN the acronym … it's a fun way to remember how we classify living things in our environment. On Wednesdays we have commenced our Passion Project and Board Games afternoons. Each alternating Wednesday afternoon, students will be working with others to engage in board games and developmental play. Everyother Wednesday, students will be working to complete their passion project. This is where they have the opportunity individually to create a presentation about any topic of their choice, which they are passionate about. They will begin to unpack what their passion project will look like this week.

Religion

This term in Religious Education we have begun exploring different celebrations in preparation for the sharing of sacraments next term. Students will be continuing to explore their connection to the church, while learning about the various aspects of a mass.

Homework is due back Thursdays for students. Students will all have access to the instructions via Google Classroom, as well as the printed copy which will be pasted into their homework books.
