Waiting, waiting, waiting! Where is the rain?!  It is dry and the pastures are struggling. Unfortunately, we are not isolated in this problem.  The lack of rain is wide-spread, and everyone is crying out for feed. We have started up the airseeder and the combine in the hope that the rains will come.

Welcome back to all the students for Term 2. Time for the Year 12s to put in the hard yards to get all their farm competencies completed towards their Certificate II in Agriculture. The majority of the farm staff have been busy over the holidays keeping the farm running, with plenty of feeding to be done each day.  Time for the students to take over!

Seeding

The Seeding Roster has been put up in the farm workshop, so make sure you check which day you’ll be on the tractor.  If you didn’t put your name down on the sign-up sheet last term, I’m sorry, all the spots are filled.  If there are students willing to sit on the tractor on Saturdays, please approach Mr de Beer to see if this is possible.  Working on weekends will not be guaranteed as staffing is an issue.

Weekend farm duty

It is very important for anyone wanting to swap their weekend duty, to do this AT LEAST two weeks prior to your rostered weekend. Swapping is discouraged, but sometimes it will be necessary.  A legitimate reason for swapping will be required.  Weekend leave will be rejected if you are rostered on for weekend farm duty. I must acknowledge the maturity of those students that have had to change their weekend duty roster early this term.  Being the first 2 weeks of term, it was difficult to give 2 weeks’ notice, however each student has volunteered for other weekends where there has been a gap in the roster.  Thank you.

The weekend duty roster is on the student notice board at the dining hall.  This will be updated fortnightly.
