Grade 1/2

12A Mrs. O'Reilly, 12B Mr. Gallois, 12C Ms. Tree & Ms. King

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to Term 2! It has been wonderful to see the excitement of students returning to school after the holidays. We took some time on Monday to reconnect as a cohort. This also allowed for the sharing of Easter, Eid, and holiday experiences. It sounds like families have had a wonderful time celebrating and building happy memories.

LITERACY

This term, we are exploring questions. What is a question? When, as readers, do we need to ask questions? What kind of questions would we ask about books we are reading? How could we find answers to questions in the texts we are exploring? How do you answer a question? What questions can you ask if you are unsure?

So many questions!

We will also investigate how we infer when we are reading. Be prepared to have some serious detectives looking for clues!

Our writing focus is producing information reports.

NUMERACY

We will continue to explore our understanding of place value, while also relating these understandings to properties of addition and subtraction.

You can assist by looking for some real-life examples of adding and subtracting. An example might be:

If Mr Gallois had 7 chocolates, Ms King had 5 chocolates, and Mrs O’Reilly had 9 chocolates, how many do they have altogether?

If Ms Tree discovers they have chocolates then a subtraction would definitely happen!

SEL/INQUIRY

We will continue to explore and celebrate cultural events that are observed by the families in our community.

Our new inquiry question is: How do we connect to where we live?

Our school wellbeing team has been sharing resources with the teachers about best learning.

A healthy, happy child is a good learner.

One way you can support a healthy, happy child is with:

SLEEP!

School aged children need 10-11 hours of sleep each night.

Good sleep helps children with their emotional regulation.

It allows for greater focus and concentration throughout the day.

Routine and a consistent bedtime are ways you can support this.
