A MESSAGE AND SUPPORT FROM

The attack at Westfield Bondi Junction at the weekend was a tragic and distressing event. We know that there is a connection between exposure to traumatic events and mental health issues, and it’s important to be ready to support children and young people who may be struggling.

We have put together a list of mental health services, helplines and resources for educators to help support yourself and your learning community following this distressing incident over the weekend.

Resilience is this week’s focus topic published in Schooltv

Resilience is important for a child’s mental health. It is their ability to bounce back from failure, challenges, adversity and stress. It’s not something that kids have or don’t have but a skill that kids develop over time as they grow.

“Resilience is key to addressing mental health issues. We need to allow our kids to experience adversity. There is a tendency to shield our kids because parents have become a bit over-protective.”                                                      Dr Michael Carr-Gregg
