STEM

Hello AHPS community! We are pleased to welcome our new STEM teacher Yurani to our team. Yurani comes with broad STEM experience and we are excited to have her!

This term we have continued some exciting topics in STEM ranging from biology to Physics, Natural Disasters and Space.

We also begun our schools first attempt at the Quantum Print-a-car challenge with 2 teams in grade 5 and 6. We look forward to showing you more soon!

FOUNDATION -  GRADE 2

In Prep to grade 2 we have been busy working on what animals need to survive and what it means to have a habitat. The students have explored animals (mostly Australian) and what they need in a Habitat. Students have begun to use their understanding of their animals needs and habitat to create a habitat pop-up page to combine into a Nature Sanctuary Book.

GRADE 3 & 4

Grades 3 & 4 students have continued their understanding of FORCES, deepening their understanding of Push & Pull, Laws of Motion, and Pressure as a force.

They have designed and are busy constructing their own water pressure rockets which they will iterate on and have multiple launches by the end of term. Their aim is to launch a rocket to a height of 80 meters and return it safely to the ground.

GRADE 5 & 6

Grade 5/6 students have continued their work on their challenge of constructing a building that can withstand an earthquake. They are using dried pasta and experimenting with their designs and construction skills. Students earlier explored how the world is constructed (layers) and how these combine to cause earthquakes and the effect they have on people.
