Upcoming activities

You should have received some Easter Raffle tickets for each family. Please see Bek at the office if you need some more tickets for extended family and friends. Please make sure all money and tickets are returned to the office by 22nd March. Good luck!

Time to get your Easter bonnet / hat / head piece ready for our annual Easter Bonnet Parade. We look forward to parading our creations in the Mercy Centre on the 26th March at 9am!

RE: Lent

On Friday we shared assembly prayer which focused on our gratefulness for all that we have. During Lent, the students have been focusing on giving to, rather than giving up something.  The idea is that they help someone else. This is a link back to our Resilience lessons on empathy.

What can you give this Lent?

This week and next, we will be looking at the events of Holy Week in the last part of our RE unit for this term. Here is a little video that the children have loved over the years that explains in a nutshell, the story of Jesus' journey to the cross. Our learning  about Easter continues after the school holidays once this even has taken place in the Church.

The Resilience Project

Empathy

Our new focus for TRP is empathy. We are learning about putting ourselves in someone else's shoes (not literally, because I'm a size 10 and they'll be too big for these little guys!)

So what is empathy in TRP? Empathy is the capacity to understand and feel what another person is feeling. Try these GEM chats, they are for everyone (Mums and Dads included).

Literacy

Last week, Year Three students completed four assessments for the NAPLAN. They were amazing under test conditions, foreign to the classroom and should each be proud of their efforts!

NAPLAN results will be sent home later in the year, they will look something like this...

Reading

Week 8 &9  Focus :

Learning intention:

I am learning to locate key information in a non-fiction text.

Success criteria:

I look for topic words.

I use headings and subheadings to locate information.

We continue to have a strong focus on capital letters, full stops, paragraphs and identifying nouns and adjectives.

Writing

We are writing our own animal information report over the next fortnight. The Year Four students have done a wonderful job with Ms Ally in researching Australian animals over the last week while NAPLAN was happening. Have a look at some of the things they discovered about these animals.

For those who did not catch the assembly on Friday, this is what they have learnt so far.

Spelling

Our spelling focuses for the next fortnight are /or/ as in worm and then a revision of the sounds we have worked on this term.

Home Reading Program

It is great to see so many children reading every night and getting their diary signed. We have decided to acknowledge the consistency in reading and will be sending home certificates with those children who make a regular commitment to developing a love of reading . Keep up the GREAT work everyone!

Numeracy

This week we have continued to develop our understanding of pattern and have linked this learning with money. In Year 3 and 4, mathematics learning extends to practical applications, including understanding patterns using dollars and cents. Students learn to create patterns using various combinations of coins, understanding their values and relationships. They progress to constructing patterns up to a specified dollar amount, honing their skills in recognising and manipulating currency. To demonstrate accuracy, students articulate their process, explaining how they've achieved the desired value through a logical sequence of coin combinations. This may involve breaking down the total into smaller parts, identifying patterns within the pattern, and ensuring consistency in their approach. Through this process, students not only reinforce their understanding of money but also enhance their problem-solving abilities and mathematical reasoning skills.

Next week we will continue learning about Money and how it is rounded up and down and will also look at estimating and calculating amounts.

Student's were told that I had $2 in my hand. Their challenge was to draw what coins I could possibly have.

Inquiry

DECISIONS , DECISIONS.

All day every day we make decisions, mostly good, but sometimes not so good. Children make decisions by observing others, relying on emotions and intuition, learning through trial and error, and navigating social influences. Their choices evolve as they grow, influenced by developmental stage, guidance from adults, and personal values.

We are learning about recognising our emotions and how these may affect the decisions that we make. Another component of our Civics and Citizenship unit is rules.

Rules are especially important for kids as they provide essential guidance for behaviour, safety, and learning. Children are still developing their understanding of the world and need clear boundaries to navigate social interactions and environments. Rules help children learn about responsibility, respect, and consequences, teaching them valuable lessons about right and wrong. By establishing rules, adults provide a framework for children to develop self-discipline, empathy, and problem-solving skills, setting them up for success in school, relationships, and life in general.

What rules do you have in your family?

Uniform Reminders (part of our school rules!)

It is still hat wearing season, so please ensure your child has their hat every day.

Our sports days are on Wednesday and Friday. Students need to be in sports uniform with white socks and runners. All other days, students need to be in the full school uniform with green socks and black polished shoes. A reminder that hair below the collar needs to be tied back with a neutral hair colour tie or yellow and green in the school colours.

Nail polish is not to be worn to school.
