Upcoming Events

Over the past couple of week we have been looking at Mindfulness. We are building a bank of activities that students can do independently or with a partner. These include meditation, yoga poses, mindful colouring and deep breathing.

Curriculum

Literacy

In writing we have concluded our investigation of information texts. We finish off the term learning about persuasive writing. We collected data about a variety of topics. There was a lot of conversation as the children explored the language of persuasion. We graphed our responses, and then wrote some arguments to support our point of view.

Mathematics

We continue our 'Number Sense'  unit until the end of term, building our number knowledge and efficient counting of collections of objects. Also, developing problem solving strategies to solve mathematical questions. Here is one of our conundrums.

I saw 12 legs under the fence. How many animals could there be?

Mathemagicians!

Last Tuesday, 21 nervous but excited Mathemagicians went to the Mercy Centre to challenge themselves with problem solving activities. We started by investigating a Mobius Strip and discovered that it is possible for a piece of paper to have only one side!!

There were many choices of activities and we could choose which ones we wanted to do! We also got to decide how to work. With a partner, a group or by ourselves. There were some easy and some tricky activities, but we kept going by trial and error to find patterns and get the answers. The year 1 and 2 students created their own map of a city.

We all agreed that we are looking forward to next term’s event.

Thanks to Mr Saxon for assisting on the day!

Religion

We continued the journey towards Easter and experienced the events of Holy Week. On Palm Sunday we wondered why the people shouted 'Hosanna.' and waved palm leaves at Jesus as he entered Jerusalem.

A hug thank you to the families who have already returned their Project Compassion boxes. It's been wonderful to see the generosity of so many during this season of Lent.

Inquiry - Digital Systems

We are fully in the swing of exploring digital systems. We explored hardware and software, and how they work together to enable us to use devices such as iPads.

Take-home Reading

As we head towards the end of term,  students are expected to read every day for at least 10-15 minutes. Some children have a preference for reading in the evening, and some in the morning. They could read in the car, when they get home from school, even when Mum or Dad is preparing dinner. The opportunities  are endless.  Please don't forget to sign your child's reader diary.

Upcoming Events

Friday 22nd March - My Future Academy. Students are expected to wear sport uniform.

Thursday 28th March - Stations of the Cross/ Celebration of Learning/ last day of Term 1, early finish.

Until next time,
