Re-launching Highvale's House System
Amanda Gomes
I’m excited to be leading the re-launch of Highvale’s House system! There has been lots of feedback from students about wanting more House activities and competitions. The aim of re-launching our House system is:
- To provide leadership opportunities and to develop student’s leadership skills
- To provide an opportunity for students to voice their ideas about what activities/events they would like to participate in
- For students to build connections with their peers from other year levels
- To develop a sense of school community and to build House spirit
Currently, the House events we run are our Swimming and Athletics Carnival. What a re-launch looks like:
- Ongoing House points and a House winner awarded each term
- Regular House events and competitions including activities from all subject areas (eg. performing arts, robotics, debating, reading challenges).
- Fundraising events, staff vs students competitions and events that bring the whole school together.
- Bringing back House Cup Day- a day full of House activities where students compete in a variety of fun competitions.
- Students awarded House points for displaying the school values
- Electing House Captains for 2025
- Renaming the houses. This is the first step of our re-launch. Students have put forward their suggestions and we are in the process of shortlisting the best ideas. These will then be voted on by students.
I look forward to updating you on our progress. Stay tuned!
