Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying the steady rhythm of the school year. It's been a fantastic start to 2024, and I'm pleased to see how well everyone has settled into their learning routines. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by both students and staff have set a positive tone for the rest of the year.

Student Free Days

I would like to inform our community that School Council has approved the following student free days for 2024. These days are crucial for staff professional development and enhancing the learning environment. Please mark your calendars for the following dates:

  • Wednesday 8th May - Curriculum Day (Staff Professional Learning)
  • Friday 21st June - Curriculum Day (Assessment and Reporting Day)
  • Tuesday 13th August - Curriculum Day (Staff Professional Learning)
  • Friday 29th November - Staff Professional Practice Day

Upcoming Events

As we progress through the term, there are several events lined up before the term's end:

  • NAPLAN assessments are scheduled from Wednesday 13th March to Monday 25th March for Year 7 and 9 students.
  • Our Twilight Tunes concert will be held on Thursday 21st March in the main courtyard. We invite the entire community to join us and support our talented music students as they showcase their skills.
  • The VCE formal is set for Tuesday 26th March, offering our students a well-deserved chance to celebrate their achievements and great start to the school year.
  • Parent / Teacher Interviews will take place on Wednesday 27th March. These will be conducted online, with no formal classes scheduled for the day. It's an excellent opportunity for families to receive feedback on their child's progress and address any concerns directly with the teacher. More information regarding the logistics of the day will be communicated via Compass in the following weeks.

School Council Update

We are pleased to welcome the newly elected members of our School Council:

  • Staff Representatives: Roslyn Patti and Natalie Valentine
  • Parent Representatives: Ashwin Bindu and Rajan Pennadam

Additionally, the Student Representative election results will be communicated early next week.

I'm also excited to share updates on various School Council projects. Last year, we completed the installation of a new substation providing upgraded power to the school. This has enabled air conditioning to be installed throughout every classroom, providing a more comfortable learning environment for our students. This year, we're focusing on upgrading the tennis courts to a synthetic grass surface and converting D3, our classroom adjacent to the main gym into a fitness centre, among other initiatives.

Careers in Sport USA Camp Opportunity

We've received an exciting opportunity to offer a Careers in Sport overseas trip this November/December. This trip, designed for students in Years 9-12, will provide exposure to various training facilities and programs in the US. An online information session will be held on Thursday 14th March for interested parties. Please see the attached documents for more details.

In closing, I want to thank the entire school community for their ongoing support and dedication. Together, we're creating a vibrant and enriching learning environment for our students.
