Year 12 Biology
In Year 12 Biology, students learn about enzymes in living systems, especially as they apply to photosynthesis and respiration. In this practical activity, students examined the effects of changing the temperature and pH on how quickly the enzyme diastase could break down starch (a polymer of glucose) into individual glucose molecules. In doing so they determined the optimal temperature and pH for diastase activity, and were able to observe enzyme denaturation in action.
