Love and Lent
Wednesday February 14th this year was significant for two reasons. Firsty, it was Valentines day - a day devoted to celebrating love. Secondly, it was Ash Wednesday - the first day of the season of Lent - a period of 40 days that many Christians set aside to prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter.
As we do each year, our College community gathered together to mark Ash Wednesday. This whole school chapel included a Bible reading from 1 John 4 - “Here is what love is. It is not that we loved God. It is that he loved us and sent his Son to give his life to pay for our sins.” As we reflected upon love on Valentine’s Day, we were reminded that the ultimate symbol of love is the cross - Jesus died for us, so our sins might be forgiven and we might live in relationship with him.
Our Student Leaders, from both the Primary and Secondary schools, did a wonderful job leading us in various aspects of this service, including distributing Ashes to those who wanted them. Ashes have long been a symbol of repentance - saying sorry to God - and are used to mark the start of this season of Lent.
Prep Blessing Service
Each year, it ia joy to welcome a new group of Preps to our College community - students who are at the very start of their schooling journey. This year we celebrated this important milestone with a “Prep Blessing service” - a time in which our Preps, their Year 6 buddies and their families joined together as we prayed God’s blessing upon them in their journey. Students were gifted a Bible, cross and certificate.
We look forward to seeing our Prep students grow in their learning, friendship and love throughout their time at Lakeside.
