Senior Boy's Cricket
After beating Gleneagles SC two weeks ago the Nossal senior boys headed down to Carrum Downs to play Cranbourne East SC in the next round. The ground surface was immaculate and the weather hot and dry. Losing the toss meant that we were asked to bat first and the early indications were positive.
These quickly became very good as Shaurya Shukla (27 runs) and Jishan Liyanage (46 runs) piled on quick runs. We did lose a couple of wickets though and in the end we scored 4/162 from our 20 overs. Others to do well with the bat were Om Patel who made a nice 27, along with Hasith Peiris and Abhay Bolisetty. A good score but would it be enough?
We knew that amongst the Cranbourne East players there were some very good aggressive batters who could challenge us if they got going.
Fortunately, we were able to take some crucial early wickets as well as keeping the run rate low and this meant that the run rate required became very large for Cranbourne East.
Accordingly, a lot of their batters found themselves in a position where they had to score very quickly and take risks in doing so. This meant that ultimately Cranbourne East was bowled out for a score of only 68. Ramsbbu Ramanathan took 3 wickets, Mohammed Abidi and Paarth Pandey each took 2 wickets and Paarth also took 3 catches.
What seemed like a one-sided match was a result of the excellent pressure our boys exerted on Cranbourne East.
The game was played in excellent spirit with some good-natured banter between the teams made possible as many of the players already knew and respected each other from outside the school environment.
The next match will be held on Thursday next week and we say, Go Nossal!

Casey North Division Tennis Tournament
On February 26, the intermediate and senior girls' and boys' teams participated in the Casey North Division tennis tournament at the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre, where we played on synthetic and hard courts.
The weather was perfect for the event, and the atmosphere was competitive but joyous and relaxed. It was great to meet other schools who also share a love for tennis and come to the competition with an upbeat spirit.
We had to play 4 games for both singles and doubles matches and they were filled with cheering, sportsmanship, and exceptional performance. The teams finished with a successful win against all the other schools, with all of us going to the Regionals.
The sporting excursion allowed Nossal students to represent our school with pride and have a collective sense of closeness when surrounded by so many other schools.
Thanks to the staff who facilitated such a smooth and fun excursion, looking forward to repeating it all at Regionals!
