Sport and P.E.
In the Classroom -
In Foundation, our students have begun to learn about different types of locomotor movements during their weekly PE classes. Specifically, at this level, students have been focusing upon the difference between jogging, running and sprinting, in preparation for next term's Cross Country Carnival. Meanwhile, our Grade 1 and 2 students have been reviewing underarm throwing technique, rotating through different activities that focus upon this fundamental movement skill. Target games have been the focus of our 3/4 students over the past fortnight, as these students have practised the sports of archery and golf. Finally, our big kids in Year 5/6, have had the joyous task of fitness testing! This has included testing of vertical jump, seated chest pass, sit and reach, 20m sprint, aeroplane hold and (everyone's favourite) the beep test! Using these results, students have now set a fitness goal for themselves that they will be encouraged to work towards throughout the year.
Sporting Events -
District Swimming:
23 BPPS students (and many supportive and helpful parents!) attended the District Swimming Carnival last Thursday at the Boroondara Sports Complex. All of our students were OUTSTANDING - their efforts in the water helping BPPS to finish in 3rd place overall out of the schools in our district. Not only that, but the level of positivity, effort and support for one another was second to none - it was truly a pleasure to be part of! Special mention to the below students for finishing in the ribbons places for their respective events!
- Aiden Yuan - Freestyle (1st), Breaststroke (2nd)
- Jasper Wang - Butterfly (2nd)
- Jeremy Zeng - Breaststroke (2nd)
- Madeline Duong - Freestyle (3rd), Butterfly (3rd)
- Neive Cole, Madeline Duong, Sophia Lee, Madison Ta - Girls Open Medley (3rd)
Division Swimming:
It was a quick turnaround after District Swimming, but their efforts in the water saw both Jeremy Zeng and Aiden Yuan qualify for Division Swimming, which took place on Friday 1st March. Well done to both of the boys on progressing to such an exceptional level with their swimming this year! The run isn't yet over for Aiden though, who has now qualified for Regional Swimming later in March, as a result of finishing 2nd in both the Freestyle and the Breaststroke at the Division Level. Good luck at Regionals Aiden!
BPPS Fitness Club -
Last week, we had almost 50 BPPS students, from Foundation up to Year 6, attend our first Fitness Club session of 2024. It was an absolute joy to see so many dedicated students (and parents!) hit the track with us all. If you would like to join us for Fitness Club on a Thursday morning, please email me at philip.wickham@education.vic.gov.au for more information.
Have a great week!
