NAPLAN Coordinated Practice Test

Tuesday 27th, February 2024

Year 7 students across South Australia will complete a national coordinated practice test on Tuesday, 27 February. Our students will complete the practice test during Lesson 5. The purpose of this practice is to check for technical readiness prior to the testing period in March.

It is important to note that the results of the practice test are not recorded.

Endeavour College NAPLAN Online Testing Dates

Further to the announcement on the practice test, we also have the dates in which we will run the four NAPLAN tests at the College. Endeavour’s NAPLAN testing period has been designed to allow for as little disruptions as possible to events and specialist lessons.

The Year 7 and 9 students will complete NAPLAN on the following dates:

Wednesday, 13 March - Writing

Thursday, 14 March - Reading

Wednesday, 20 March - Conventions of Language

Thursday, 21 March - Numeracy

Students are reminded that they need headphones that plug into their laptops and fully charged laptops for each day of test.

Charging stations are available around the College should students wish to charge before their test.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact me at morgan.rigby@endeavour.sa.edu.au

Meet the Senior Years Care Group Teacher and Senior Years Information Night

With our new pastoral structure for 2024 it was a pleasure to have Senior Years families connect with their new Care Group Teacher or strengthen existing relationships for those students who remained with their previous teacher. We cherish this important relationship and dedicated time which provides consistent daily support to build a significant partnership over students’ senior years at Endeavour College. High behavioural expectations explicitly linked to high support and encouragement allows students to flourish and thrive emotionally, socially, morally, physically, spiritually and therefore academically.

It was also exciting for us to share some insight into the VIEW, our new pastoral framework for Senior Years. More information related to the VIEW is included below.

The evening finished with year level specific information sessions. Year Level Leaders

Mr Daniel Wooldridge (Year 12), Ms Lauren Gray (Year 11) and Ms Veronica Falero (Year 10) reminded parents of support available, presented expectations and important dates and events. Mrs Annie Fitridge (Careers and Pathways Leader) and Mrs Sandra Barry (Director of Learning) shared their expertise about SACE and other pathways available to students in Senior Years. If you were unable to attend the evening the PowerPoints for all sessions will be available next week on our website.

Along with the Year Level Leaders, Mrs Fitridge and Ms Barry, the Senior Years Pastoral Team also includes Counsellors (Marni Harding and Henry Lee), Adaptive Education Leader (Mrs Carol Thomas), Ministry (Pastor Chris Mann), and Ms Sharon Ward (Director of Senior Years). This approachable team will always collaborate with each and work with students and parents for the best outcomes.

We hope this event has helped senior students and families begin the year successfully as we build connections and support the students to achieve their goals and flourish.

Insight into the

With the changes to Care Groups the Senior Years Pastoral Team and Care Group teachers have developed this new framework called the VIEW. It encompasses the Vision For Learners and the Endeavour Way and expands to have a focus on Inclusion and Wellbeing. It reflects what we already do with a VIEW to the future, informed by contemporary research and what matters most to us in our Christian education environment. This framework will drive Care Group and the overall pastoral program for Senior Years.

The Vision For Learners articulates what learning looks like at Endeavour College. It seeks to give an overview of the key attributes explored in all learning areas. The Vision for Learners is centred around student development connected to three key principles – Independence, Interdependence and Collective Action. In Senior Years, with a pastoral lens on the Vision For Learners, we will focus on Flexible Thinking, Agency, Influence and Risk Taking.

Our aim, with a focus on Inclusion, is to develop and expand senior students' understanding that there is an infinite range of individual characteristics that makes them and others unique.

Inclusion occurs when students feel, and are valued and respected, have a sense of belonging, feel safe to contribute and fulfil their individual and collective potential and have access to opportunities and resourses. We aim to develop a community culture where relationships are valued and members feel connected, safe and respected.

To be inclusive, students need to understand diversity. Diversity is about recognising, respecting and valuing differences of the infinite range of individual characteristics.

We aim for Senior students to have the hearts and minds to self-direct their futures, work with others and become influencers in their communities through this respect for and understanding of inclusion.

Inclusion will have a focus on Empathy, Respect, Shared Responsibility and Perspective.

The Endeavour Way underpins our policies, procedures and the relationships within our whole community (students, families and staff). The Endeavour Way focuses on the four values of Love, Courage, Forgiveness and Hope and are the lived values of Endeavour College. These values help guide our actions and enable us to reflect the love of God through the way we seek to provide a safe and caring environment for everyone who is part of our College community.

In the Senior Years we are focusing what we believe is the next iteration, a Senior Years iteration, of Love, Courage, Forgiveness and Hope which extends to Connection, Conflict Competence, Communication and Living in Grace.

Our Restorative Practices approach emphasises working with our immediate community members to educate them to address behaviour and value relationships. It calls community members to make a personal transformation from a focus on the self towards a focus on others and the common good, and as such it reflects the model of Christ in terms of dealing with others. This will continue to be a focus of how we interact

with the young adults we mentor in the Senior Years. Our Restorative Practices approach reflects the central value the College’s community places on relationships – among students, families and staff.

Our aim is for our senior students to be emotionally aware, connected and supported to optimise Wellbeing.

We want them to be able to seek, support and show resilience to life challenges, have a positive sense of self and purpose in life, thereby enabling meaningful choices for wellbeing and development to strive and fulfil their potential.

A focus on resilience, self-awareness, belonging and gratitude will guide our Wellbeing program.

One integral part of our pastoral program is the Care Group Connection evenings (Year 11 and 12 early Term 2 and Year 10 in Term 4). Parents are invited to conversations led by their child. We expect all Senior students to attend with at least one parent/caregiver so they can share their development and outline strengths, challenges and goals. This is an important opportunity for students to reflect on their attributes, qualities and capabilities of all aspects in their lives.
