Wellbeing Update

Play Leaders

This week has seen our Play Leaders program kick into gear. Even after a busy week in Canberra, our leaders have brought an energy and enthusiasm that has been infectious. They have contributed ideas to how sessions will run, approached potential problems creatively and devised big plans for advertising and promoting their program.

This term we will be running two sessions per week on the oval:

  • Tuesday Pranzo – Years 1/2
  • Thursday Pranzo – Years 3/4

As our leaders grown in confidence, we aim to add in opportunities for Foundation and 5/6 students to also take part.

LEADERS REFLECTIONS:

  • “That was SO fun!”
  • “They all listened and whenever we gave instructions, they did it immediately, so we had more time.”
  • “They weren’t afraid to ask if they didn’t understand.”
  • “They got excited when we announced new games.”
  • “They were pumped but respectful!”
  • “The best part was seeing how happy they were. We surprised ourselves at how well they listened to us.”

(Comments from our leaders Poppy, Scarlett, Loie and Iniko)

We look forward to sharing more of our Play Leaders reports with you in the coming weeks.

Harmony Week

We are incredibly excited to be celebrating Harmony Week at SKiPPS in two weeks’ time (18th-22nd March).

As we shared in last week’s Newsletter, we aim to use this week to focus on the positive things about cultural diversity and to support each other in countering the negative things. It creates a sense of belonging for all members of our community.

Students and families will have received an outline of the wonderful activities we will be engaging in as a school community.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES:

  • Wednesday 20th March
    • (2.30 – 3.30) – Open afternoon
    • (3.30)      - Multicultural Picnic & Capoeira performance

  • Thursday 21st March
    • (7.45-8.45) – Crepes for change
    • (9.00)     – Harmony Day Assembly & Cultural dress day

You would have also seen the ‘Stay for Dinner’ Home Learning task.

At some stage over the next couple of weeks we would love you to share your food stories as a family and to engage in one of the activities suggested on the Home Learning task sheet.

Remember, your food story may be something steeped in tradition or a recipe handed down from generation to generation, or it could relate to a meal or tradition that has a special place in the family for different reasons.

We can’t wait to share these stories during Harmony Week with our classes and for families to share their stories and food during our Open Afternoon and multicultural picnic.

Speaking of stories…

‘Grandparents in Harmony’ is a wonderful opportunity for grandparents in our community to come and share their stories and family history. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have a grandparent who would like to come in throughout the week.

As parents and carers, you may have something important to your culture that you would like to share with your child’s class. This could be a tradition, arts and crafts, music, etc.. Again, please contact your child’s teacher if you’d like to join us during Harmony Week.
