Not only is industry telling us there is a huge demand for girls but the incentive in salaries is also very attractive. So, if you see some of our female students around school, donning the high vis, please give them a shout out!

What’s happened in Numeracy during Term 1

Year 12 - Banqer High Program

Year 12 VCE VM Numeracy classes have been engaging with the program Banqer High which is a Financial Literacy Program tailored for secondary schools. This program builds core life skills around banking, careers, property, budgeting, insurance, and investments, including the stock exchange. Banqer covers a range of crucial life skills. Make learning fun with videos, quizzes and simulated events that build knowledge through experiential learning.

Students’ reflections so far…

‘I like Banqer high as it’s a risk-free way of learning financial literacy” Regan

“I’m enjoy learning about money” Rylee

“Its insightful” Patrick

Year 11 - Applied learning at the race track!

Week 4, the numeracy team got together to set up the AFX track and divide the table into sections for the 4 Year 11 Numeracy classes.

The track itself, is to ‘rev up’ the minds… as they prepare to design and build their scale models of the Grand Prix, they will be using formulas to calculate the scale measurement from the real-life actual size of the object to the scale version. Using cardboard, rulers and glue, students will make their scale objects from the F1, including F1 cars, grandstands, food stalls etc.

VM Success story…

Dear McClelland College,

I am writing on behalf of Marvel Slabs to inform you of the successful employment of one of your students, Jordan Davis.

We are pleased to announce that Jordan has joined our team at Marvel Slabs on a full-time basis. His academic achievements and skills acquired during his time at McClelland College have undoubtedly contributed to his success in securing this position. Jordan's role with us reflects not only his dedication but also the valuable qualities instilled by McClelland College. We believe he will make meaningful contributions to our organisation and continue to grow professionally.

If there are any specific procedures or documentation required from Marvel Slabs to confirm Jordan's employment, please do not hesitate to inform us. We greatly appreciate the education and preparation that McClelland College has provided to Jordan, and we look forward to witnessing his continued success in the professional world.

Sincerely, Fawn Brady (HR Manager)

White Card Training

Well done to 22 Vocational Major students who gained their White Cards this term. Students undertook a day’s training to gain their certificates. Gaining their white card was the beginning for many students their preparation for the ‘real working world’.

BREATHE… one, two, three, four…hold…exhale!

As part of Unit 1 in Personal Development Skills - Emotional Intelligence, students were exposed to all strategies that would assist in self-regulation and self-awareness. As we prepare them for the real world, they need to understand the importance of working effectively with others and controlling emotions in a professional environment. One of the strategies that they undertook was taking part in a yoga lesson with Betina from the Art of Balance, gaining a better understanding of the benefits of natural therapies.

Namaste!

The VCE Vocational Major HQ

Located just near the VM Learning Centre the VM HQ is a multi-purpose facility that provides the year 11 and 12 VM students with a range of applied learning opportunities. The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is designed for students who want to achieve their VCE qualification while at the same time pursuing their goals for employment after they complete their time at McClelland College.

The VM HQ facility allows students to apply in practice the skills they have learnt in the classroom. These can include using the workshop for furniture repair or restoring an antique piano, using the beauty salon to do manicures, or working in the very popular VCafe.

VM HQ provides the opportunity to develop and run student-based enterprises developing the skills to make students more employable in the future. Our Year 12 VM students Ruby, Emma and Ebony produced this guide on the do’s and don'ts of making a great coffee. Thanks to Miss G for joining in on the fun.

DONATIONS WANTED - UNIFORMS

As part of a school wide crack down on the importance of students wearing the correct uniform, the VM team are commitment to supporting students in adhering to uniform policy. To continue doing this, we are looking for donations. If any parents/caregivers have good quality uniforms that are sitting in the back of wardrobes or cupboards, please consider donating them to the VM office. Any size of the summer or winter uniform would be greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank all families who continue to support their children in this challenge.
