Kitchen Garden

Grow, Harvest, Prepare, Share

Kitchen

Today marked the beginning of our much-awaited cooking program. It was a fun-filled session where students learned to cook using fresh ingredients from our garden, which included an abundance of zucchini and cucumbers.

During the class, we focused on three different recipes. First, the students learned how to make Tzatziki dip, a traditional Greek dip made with cucumbers, yogurt, garlic, and dill. The dip perfectly matched the fresh cucumbers harvested from our garden.

Second, the students made Lavosh crackers, which are thin, crispy, and perfect for snacking. The crackers are made with flour, salt, and water and can be topped with various seasonings. Students decided to top their crackers with sea salt.

Finally, the students learned how to make chocolate and zucchini muffins. The muffins are a delicious and healthy way to use the abundance of zucchinis in our garden. The

muffins were made with grated zucchini, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder, which was a hit among the students! They all couldn't believe that they had a vegetable in it!

Parent Volunteers

We will be seeking parent volunteers for our upcoming cooking and gardening program later this term. Parents will be assigned to work alongside their child in either the kitchen or garden unless otherwise requested.

Clean Up Australia Day for Schools

This year Clean Up Australia Day for schools is on Friday, 1 March.

We will all be participating and helping our school to stay clean. Each class will be given a bucket and gloves for students and teachers to use to clean up any rubbish they find in their designated area around the school.  This will be done at 2:30pm

straight after recess on Friday. We will be doing a waste audit of the rubbish found in the

playground as well as an audit of our classroom bins to raise awareness of the amount of landfill one small school produces on a daily basis. Can we reduce this amount and do our part in helping the environment?

We hope everyone can be a part of this great initiative to reduce our waste and to help keep our school clean! https://www.cleanup.org.au/about-us

It's been great to resume our Kitchen Garden Program, with both cooking and gardening classes starting. The summer garden is thriving with an abundance of zucchinis, cucumbers, pumpkins, and tomatoes. Our Year 3 students enjoyed a productive potato session with a large harvest of potatoes discovered.
