VCE & Careers Expo

On Thursday, 30 April, our Year 10–12 students attended the VCE & Careers Expo at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The expo is one of MelboTurne’s major careers and education events, bringing together universities, TAFEs, training providers, apprenticeship organisations, employers and careers specialists in one location. For our senior students, the day provided a valuable opportunity to step beyond the classroom and engage directly with the many pathways available to them beyond school.

Students were able to explore a wide range of study and career options, including university courses, TAFE qualifications, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment pathways and industry-based opportunities. Speaking face-to-face with representatives allowed students to ask specific questions about entry requirements, subject prerequisites, course structures, scholarships, accommodation, student support, work placements and future employment possibilities. This was particularly helpful for students who are beginning to narrow their subject choices, consider VCE pathways, or think seriously about post-school options.

A key benefit of the expo was the chance for students to compare different institutions and pathways side by side. Rather than relying only on websites or brochures, students could have personalised conversations and begin to understand the differences between courses, campuses and training options. For some students, this confirmed an existing interest; for others, it opened up new possibilities they had not previously considered. The event also encouraged students to think more broadly about future careers, including pathways through vocational education, apprenticeships, industry training and flexible university options.

The seminar and presentation program also provided students with practical advice about VCE subjects, study strategies, university life, career planning and employer expectations. These sessions helped students connect their current learning with future goals, reinforcing the importance of informed decision-making, planning and self-awareness.

Overall, the VCE & Careers Expo was a highly worthwhile experience for our Year 10–12 students. It supported them to ask questions, gather reliable information, explore possibilities and take greater ownership of their pathway planning. Most importantly, it reminded students that there are many different routes to a meaningful and successful future, and that each student has the opportunity to build a pathway that reflects their strengths, interests and aspirations.
