Year 11 - Psychology Brain Dissection.

Our Year 11 VCE Psychology students recently took part in an exciting and hands-on brain dissection practical as part of their studies into the nervous system and brain functioning.
During the session, students had the opportunity to closely examine a real sheep’s brain, identifying and exploring important structures such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, corpus callosum and brain stem. This practical experience allowed students to connect their classroom learning with real-life biological structures, deepening their understanding of how the brain controls behaviour, thoughts and emotions.
The dissection also gave students valuable insight into the complexity of the brain and highlighted the importance of ethical scientific investigation and safe laboratory practices. Students demonstrated curiosity, maturity and excellent teamwork throughout the activity.
While there were certainly a few squeamish faces in the room, we are proud to report that even the most uneasy students managed to stay brave and resist the temptation to run for the door!
Hands-on learning experiences like this are an important part of VCE Psychology, helping students engage with scientific concepts in a meaningful and memorable way. It was fantastic to see students so enthusiastic and involved in the practical investigation.
Well done to all Year 11 Psychology students for their outstanding participation and professionalism during this activity at Lakeside College
