STEM Update

Year 5/6 STEM Rocket Launch Day

Over the past two terms, our Year 5/6 students explored the exciting world of Rocketry in STEM. Throughout the unit, students collaborated to investigate how rockets work, how they launch, and the science behind their design. They designed, built, tested, and refined prototype water bottle rockets while applying their understanding of air pressure, forces, scientific investigation, and experimentation.

The highlight of the project was our recent Rocket Launch Day at Shore Reserve last Friday, where students proudly launched the improved rockets they had designed and constructed. It was fantastic to see students applying their STEM knowledge and engineering skills in a real-world setting while collecting data and observing the performance of their rockets.

One of the most impressive aspects of the project was the creativity shown by the students. Each rocket had its own unique design, colours, and personality. Students carefully decorated and customised their rockets, resulting in an amazing display of creativity and innovation. Seeing the rockets lined up and ready for launch was a spectacular sight, and they looked absolutely incredible as they soared into the sky.

A special highlight of the day was the attendance of our Foundation students, who eagerly watched their Year 5/6 buddies launch their rockets high into the sky. The excitement, cheering, and wonder on their faces created a wonderful shared learning experience, connecting with their own STEM learning about rockets, air pressure, and experimentation.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the parents who joined us on the day to witness the launches and support our students. Your presence helped make the event even more special and memorable for everyone involved.

The day was filled with excitement, discovery, teamwork, and plenty of successful launches. Students returned to school inspired by their achievements and completed reflection activities to analyse their launch data, evaluate their designs, and consider improvements for future rocket projects.

Congratulations to all of our Year 5/6 students on their outstanding effort, creativity, perseverance, and enthusiasm throughout this exciting STEM learning journey. They should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
