Literature Excursion

Literature Excursion to the NGV Australia and KHT Koorie Heritage Trust

To start off Unit 2 AOS 1 on Voices of Country our Year 11 Literature Class went to NGV Australia and Koorie Heritage Trust art exhibits. We got to speak with NGV Educator David, and two pre-service teachers who accompanied us on our tour.

We began our day by visiting the Koorie Heritage Trust. There we got to have a look at two very intricate art exhibitions. The first was Karen Casey’s Let’s Shake piece. The piece was very simple yet extremely meaningful. It was created by any two people shaking hands with clay in between their hands. This allows us to start thinking about connecting our bridges between different people and different cultures.

We also looked at a series or artworks under one exhibition called the Spirit of the Animals. Here we saw many pieces dedicated to Australian animals. These were creative works that allowed us to view these animals on Country through various Indigenous perspectives.

Later on we walked over to NGV Australia. Here we were able to speak three educators on the artworks on display. We were able to grow our knowledge on voices of Country and build more of an understanding in order for us to start this AOS. We did this by discussing the works and their meanings, as shown in the picture.
