Principal’s Report

Dear School Community,

Term 3 has been another wonderful term at John Fawkner Secondary College as the new build progresses, the year 12s head into their final exams and the school continues to work hard to esnure all students have the best possible educational experience. Some of my personal highlights have been the year 12 VM presentations to the community, the success of our senior boys soccer team, the growth of the Melbourne Victory partnership along with the RUOK day and Wear it Purple day celebrations.  It has also been very encouraging to see students working hard to complete all of their CATs in the final week of term showing a dedication to their learning.

In term 4 we welcome back Dr. Lisa Vinnicombe and Ms. Jessica Mitreski who have enjoyed a well deserved extended holiday. We also have some staff who will be taking some extra time off at the start of term, Mr. Harry Lawless, Ms. Sara Gallego Gil, Ms. Carla Panozzo, Ms. Blair Duncan and Ms. Christina Paizes.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community. Together, we are creating an enriching environment for our students to thrive. I wish all students a safe and restful holiday. We're looking forward to seeing you all back at school Monday 7th October.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Warm regards,

Mr. Cemal Hakki

Acting Principal

Wellbeing

The results from the Attitudes to School Survey indicate improvements in students’ perspectives in several key areas:

  • Effective classroom behavior
  • Management of bullying
  • Sense of connectedness

We will continue to analyse this data and collaborate with staff and the SMAD team to plan for further improvements in 2025.

Learning

During Term 3, many of our students have engaged in exceptional learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, which is reflected in their positive Progress Reports.

To further enhance academic rigor and excellence, the school has developed a Progression Policy at John Fawkner Secondary College. This policy ensures that students advance to the next year level based on consistent academic performance, satisfactory work habits, and active engagement in their learning. Its goal is to equip students with the skills necessary for success in their senior years and beyond. The School Council has reviewed and approved the policy.
