Learning Centre News...

Learning Centre One

How have we come to the end of term already! What a fun filled term this has been for the preps, with all the learning that has taken place. It has been great seeing all of their achievements across Term 3.

In literacy, the students have been working on the concepts of becoming their own author for the writing they have published. The students have drafted copies of their writing and have then worked with their teacher to complete a good copy and presentation to the class of their achievements during writing. For their writing pieces the preps have worked in 3 separate groups that are of interest to them being a book, iMovie and diorama to produce, create and use a multimodal means to present and create their work.

It was great seeing the preps ideas come to life and watching them become their own author to the writing they have produced. This was such a fun learning activity, be sure to ask your child/ren the story they created.

Congratulations to the preps on what a fun day they had celebrating their learning for the term in inquiry. Learning Centre Two

INQUIRY

This term, the 5/6 students have been working extremely hard on their Australian History Inquiry presentations. After we visited Sovereign Hill for camp, the students could choose either a significant event or person in Australia's history between the years 1800 and 1910.

The students then had to research their chosen topic and write a historical recount or a biography. To go along with these written pieces, they could also present a timeline, an art piece, a map or a digital component. This week, they presented thier work to their classmates. All were very impressive - well done to all of our seniors!!

WELLBEING

To finish the term in Wellbeing, the children have been sharing about the people in their lives who they can turn to for help and support. They created helping-hands on which they wrote about a helpful person in their lives and identified how they help.

RELIGION

In the last half of this term, the students have been focussing on Mary, our Mother. They reflected on a variety of artworks depicting Mary and they were asked to choose one that connected to them the most and represent it in their own way.

LITERACY

In the last newsletter, we mentioned that the seniors had read the book 'Every Night at Midnight' during Book Week. They each created a brick for our wall that depicted a place where they each feel safest.

DIVISIONAL ATHLETICS

A small group of the 5/6 students were successful in making it through to the Divisional Athletics Day on September 10th. They travelled by bus with Scott and Danielle to the athletics track in Williamstown. We congratulate them on their efforts representing our school with pride.

SENIOR HOOPTIME

On Monday, 22 of our students attended Senior Hooptime at Eagle Stadium with Chelsea and Josh. The two teams played very well. It was a very busy day and the staff and children returned to school tired but happy.

FEAST DAY

On Friday the 13th of September, OLSC had our annual Feast Day. Students started their day by contributing to a Mary Project. Students were assigned a sheet of paper with a coinciding colour; they had to write their name and decorate their sheet in this colour. We then attended a whole school Mass which was held by Fr. Albert in our hall. The most exciting part of the day was the OLSC Trivia. The whole school participated in fun and engaging questions where groups were mixed between prep-grade 6 students.

SWIMMING

With swimming commencing for the Grade 1/2s at the beginning of Term 4 we would like to remind parents that students will be asked to change out of their wet bathers, dry and dress themselves, independently. Please be mindful that there will be adults supervising the students while dressing but will not be able to help students with changing.

In preparation for this, we are asking students to practice changing themselves independently in preparation for the swimming weeks. You may also like to practice wearing bathers in the shower, changing out of their wet bathers and drying themselves. This would make the transition easier for everyone!

Please remember that bathers/swimming clothes need to be worn under your school uniform to school that morning. They will need to bring a small bag with their towel and underwear in it, which they will be responsible for carrying to and from the pool.

Enjoy a well-earned break, looking forward to seeing you all in Term 4!
