Term 3, Week 10 - Friday 19th September, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

And that's a wrap for Term 3.  Thank you to all of our families for their support over a very busy Term 3.  I sincerely hope that you all have a great break and manage to get some 'down-time' with your families.

I know the staff are looking forward to some rest and relaxation and to recharge after the term.  I thank all of the staff for their continued dedication to the students of OLSC.  Enjoy a well earned break.

OLSC Inaugural Swimming Program

So far the Year 5/6s and 3/4s have completed the swimming program.  Overall the program has been great and the students have shown great improvement over the 2 week intensive.  In Week One and Two of next term the 1/2 student will have their turn and I encourage as many parents as possible to come along and help.  Please make sure your child practises drying themselves and changing independently over the holidays.

Two of our Year 3/4 students have shared their reflection regarding the swimming program.

"In week 9 and week 10, students in year 3/4 went for swimming at Kingswim, down at Manor Lakes Central. We went on a 13 minute walk  with a cheerful attitude. Students learnt so much from this program and will probably tell you all about it being a really great swim school and a great swimming experience."

Farewell Father Huy

St Andrew's assistant Parish Priest Father Huy will be finishing up on the parish after this weekend's masses.  Father Huy has been here a short time however has had a major impact on all of us.  He has been an instrumental support in the Parish Youth Group and has always welcomed opportunities to engage with us at school.

Father Huy is taking up the assistant Parish Priest position at St Mary Holy Cross Parish of Mordialloc and Aspendale.   I know you all join me in thanking Father Huy for thsi time in our Parish and wish him well as he moves beachside!

Congratulations Zara Dawson

Some exciting student news to share - Zara Dawson from Yr 5 will be competing in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) with the Keilor Thunder under 12s tonight in the Victorian championship game.  We wish her well at the game tonight and congratulate the effort and dedication to get to this level.

Up Coming Trip to Rome

In the holidays I will be part of an Australian cohort attending a Spiritus Formation Program in Rome and Assisi with Australian Catholic University and sponsored by MACS. This program involves lectures and visits to significant places in Italy including some time at the Vatican.  I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity along with school principals from many countries.

I will not be at school in the first week of term as we return to Melbourne on Sunday 13th of October.  Should you need anything in the first week of Term 4 Sandy and the leadership team will be on deck.  Please keep me in your prayers for a safe trip and let's hope the rain in Italy lets up for at least some of the time.

Here's a Sneak Peak at the First 2 Weeks of Term

7 October:  Term 4 begins

11th October:  Parents and Friends Meeting 9:00 am - all welcome

15th October:  Emergency Evacuation Practise

20th October:  Community Mass at 10:00am -- all welcome

Bikes and Scooters Need to be Locked - Repeated Notice

If your child is riding their bike or scooter to school please send a lock.  Just 2 weeks ago we had an unfortunate incident that involved someone jumping our fence and stealing one of the senior students bike.  This was particularly difficult for one of our students to deal with.  To avoid this in the future we ask that all bike and scooter riders use a bike lock.

We have worked with Werribee police regarding this and they have been provided with the camera footage, however it seems unlikely that it will be recovered.

At the bottom of the page there are a couple of fliers containing information on sporting opportunities in our local community.   Have a great weekend and term break everyone!
