We're following the Gleams!

Literacy

In the last few weeks of Term 3, the 3/4s  have been writing narratives. We chose a setting, characters (antagonists and protagonists) and planned using a story mountain for our build up, problem, solution and ending. Next, we published on computers and made the print outs into picture story books. Throughout the process we learnt about figurative language and included examples in our writing.

Quotes

My favourite part about the narrative is the problem because it was the most interesting part about the narrative.

My favourite part is the ending because it was the best and most funny part about the narrative.

Out on the savannah at Werribee Zoo, the brown grass swayed like hypnotised in song. The oasis’ water rippled while the palms dipped as if trying to take a drink. The wolf packs hunted and the lazy lions slept while some baby elephants played in an oasis.

Thomas the tiger lazed on a ledge, thinking. He had razor sharp claws and ruby red eyes. He loved humans, but he didn’t like Zac. Zac is one of the zookeepers. Thomas thinks he is evil. Thomas is a kind tiger, but he has a bad temper as well.

JAY C 3/4 C

The Carnival shines with vibrant and bright colours splashed as far as the eye can see. The scent and feeling of buttery popcorn and sweet, sugary fairy floss spreads in the air while you hear the joy of kids screaming and having a blast!

ANAIYA D 3/4C

This is Spawn. It is an ancient sanctuary, but with a criminal’s plan, it has fallen into death and despair. It is the only place that could support the apocalypse. It smells horrible,  tastes bitter, and it sounds like something has ATTACKED it. It is like the apocalypse these days. Now, there is only one being that can stop him. POOF! Jack? “Hi!” he snickers. He is a part of the local militia in his town who is now inexperienced and wants to get his experience back.

Deep in the forest where trees have soft leaves that whistle gently, live two best friends named Reba and Chika. The sunshine is warm and the insects twitch softly where everyone is welcome.

Reba Rabbit is like a teacup and has fluffy, pillow-like fur. Her eyes twinkle like stars in the night sky. Chika Chicken is a small, petite chicken that has cloud-like, yellow fluff. Reba and Chika are friends and love playing in the sunlight.

MAI-LINH 3/4 C

The clouds are dark as the night sky. The rocks are as big cars and the clouds are thick as trucks, it's as cold as ten freezers combined. The planet is ten times bigger than earth. The planet has tremendous, gigantic, giant, enormous, massive, colossal clouds.

Maths

This term the Maths in ¾ has been going very well. We have been learning about fractions. So far we have covered equivalent fractions, denominators, numerators and mixed numerals. We also had a lot of fun playing a game of memory snap with equivalent fraction cards we made ourselves.

Quotes

Ethan: It has really helped me improve my understanding.

Raphael: Learning fractions has been really fun and interesting.

Inquiry

This term the ¾’s have been split into different Inquiry groups. In those groups we have been doing different topics like Pollution, Fair Trade, Habitat Destruction and Fast Products. The purpose is to come up with solutions to improve the Environmental impact at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. This week we will be presenting our findings to our homegroup. It's been fascinating to learn about how the Olympics impacts our world. Jasper, 3/4D said “I think this topic has taught us to reuse things because it might be useful.” Anthony, also in 3/4D added “I also learnt how some poor people are forced to work and only get paid a very little amount.”
