Year 1/2 Learning Community News

School Production

Our 1/2 learning community took a fun walk to the clocktower to watch the 5/6 school production ''Once Upon a Twist''. The students were buzzing with excitement on the way there, and they all loved the show! They had so many positive things to say about it afterward!

Book week continues...

As Book Week came to a close, the students had one last exciting event to look forward to: "Maybe a Miracle." This interactive musical explores how to find joy in everyday moments and highlights the power of positive thinking. "Maybe a Miracle!" is a delightful journey into the world of imagination, inspired by books, and features a selection of the 2024 CBCA Shortlisted titles. It was a wonderful way to end our Book Week celebrations!

Let's hear from the students!

Ryan and Stephanie

In Initialit, Year 1 has been learning about suffixes, trigraphs, digraphs, the bossy E sound, and Zack and FLoSS words. In literacy, the Year 1’s have been publishing books about different monsters from other books. Ryan’s book is called Dragon Wars. Stephanie’s book is called Winky.

Emily and Lucy

In literacy, we have doing info graphs by building a paper pyramid and writing facts about turtles. We have been learning facts about green sea turtles such as their diet, their habitat and appearance. One fun fact about green sea turtles eat jellyfish, algae, seagrass and small fish.

Lessi and Emma

We made a maze in maths. We have been using forwards, backwards, left, right in maths, to get out of our maze. We used a legend to find things on a map, such as trees, buildings, roads, houses, cars and busses. We also drew a birds-eye-view of Windy Hill and made a legend to explain where different things are.

Archer and Harry

In inquiry, we have been using Minecraft Education edition. We built an oval for the players from Windy Hill football club, and we also built a swimming pool. Then we made the club house with a fancy restaurant, and we also built the playground. Next, we made the clubhouse toilets and food trucks for the players to use. Finally, we built a polar bear pit.
