Whole School Activities

Lower Division

Welcome back to Term 4 - we are looking forward to a wonderful last term for 2024.

In Mathematics, we have commenced a unit on measurement and have been using items such as paperclips, pieces of wool and even our own bodies to make informal measurements.

As part of our lessons, we made snakes out of playdough and tried different ways to measure them. We also used different sized squares to estimate how much area the snakes covered. We had lots of fun with these activities and hopefully these are the only snakes we see at school.

Stage 3 English

Stage 3 students have started a unit exploring the textual concepts of imagery, symbol and connotation and narrative. Students are exploring cultural narratives to identify the difference in purpose between Dreaming Stories and Songlines. They will investigate how authors use symbols and imagery to share cultural perspectives in literature and analyse how figurative language enhances meaning.

Mrs Clyde-Smith shared some artefacts from her time living and teaching in the remote Aboriginal Community of Warburton (Milytjarra) on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands to engage and introduce Stage 3 to this new unit of work. Fantastic discussion was had around Standard Australian English (SAE) and Aboriginal English (AE) when discussing the definition of the word 'deadly'.

Chooks & Poddy Lambs

At the end of Term 3, we were left with only three Isa Browns after the flock decided one had to go. Over the holidays, Mr Schaeffer has rehomed his chooks with ours - we welcomed Rosie, Lavender and Frizzle, with Frizzle being a fast favourite amongst the students. Miss Miller brought in her two poddy lambs which we have all enjoyed feeding and cuddling, too!!
