Grade 5/6 in Term 3.
This term, the 5/6 students started our electives program. Miss Hay is running a life skills elective focusing on first aid, fitness, cooking and using public transport, Mrs Kelly is creating our very first yearbook, Mr Compston is running Energy Breakthrough and Miss Tapscott is coding. It has been great to see all our students engaged in their electives. Next term, we are increasing our electives to twice a week.
In Reading, we have been learning how to infer character feelings and traits and identifying the main idea of fiction and nonfiction texts. We have been reading a variety of mentor texts to help practise these comprehension strategies. In Writing, we created biographies about famous scientists. The students researched, planned, drafted and published their pieces of writing. We have also been creating persuasive and narrative texts based on science.
In Numeracy, we have been learning how to calculate the area of regular and composite shapes. We have also learnt how to add and subtract fractions. We have also practised answering worded problems and completed a statistics investigation about the Olympics.
In Integrated, we have been learning about chemical sciences. We investigated states of matter (solids, liquids and gases) and how they can change. The students are about to complete their own science investigation about states of matter.
ART in erm 3
This term our students have been very busy creating wonderful and diverse art works to be on display in our term 4 "Celebration of the Arts" event.
